Resources for Absentee Voters

Last updated August 21, 2008

Long Distance Voter is a comprehensive, non-partisan resource for U.S based absentee voters.  Our voter guides have forms, deadlines and easy-to-follow directions for registering to vote and getting an absentee ballot when you're away from home, but not overseas/abroad.   Voting by absentee ballot has never been easier!  Military and overseas voters should check out the Overseas Vote Foundation

1. Register to vote

Our handy voter registration tool (powered by Rock the Vote) makes filling out the National Voter Registration Form a snap!  Enter your information, print the completed form, and mail it to your Secretary of State before the deadline (the address is on the form).  It takes less than three minutes to register to vote.  Register to vote now!

2. Request an absentee ballot

Every state has its own absentee ballot application.  You'll need to mail your completed application to your county election official before the deadline.  Once your application is approved, they'll mail you your absentee ballot.  You'll find forms, deadlines and easy-to-follow directions in our Voter Guides.

3. Return your ballot by Election Day

This one's pretty straightforward.  You'll fill out your ballot, sign where indicated, put a stamp on it, and mail it back to your county election official.  The return address will be on the form.  Just make sure your ballot is received by Election Day.
