Absentee Shenanigans
A number of partisan groups were active in the 2010 election and we expect many more to be active in 2012. Most Get Out the Vote campaigns are well-intentioned and perfectly legal. Not all groups, however, have your best interests in mind.
We urge voters to be wary of unsolicited absentee ballot applications; robocalls from groups to which you've never given your phone number; and political websites that ask for sensitive personal information without indicating who is behind the site and what they plan to do with the data they gather.
If you receive an unsolicited absentee voting application or similar form in the mail, make sure that 1) your local election official's address is correct, and 2) you always use a secure envelope to return the form.
We've posted a list of things to look out for in unsolicited mailers and an open letter to the RNC regarding these matters.
